About the Associated Students of UCSD (ASUCSD)

The Associated Students of the University of California, San Diego are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego student body. The ASUCSD works to promote student engagement through its services and leadership opportunities. The ASUCSD seeks to foster a cohesive community through active interaction and communication with students, the administration, and the greater San Diego Community. Our mission is to facilitate and encourage students to grow and develop through their involvement in student government, its services and auxiliaries. We promote student engagement in all areas of campus life through leadership, advocacy, and service in order to build and strengthen our community.

About the Office of the AVP Diversity Affairs

The Office of the Associate Vice President of Diversity Affairs serves to represent the underrepresented and underserved communities on and off UCSD's campus through connections with student organizations and the Associated Students. The goal is to promote and reflect upon the importance of diversity on this campus in order to elevate the issues of underrepresented communities. This office seeks to give a voice to these marginalized communities and foster salient interest in retaining, yielding, and increasing minority representation.

Goals and Projects for 2009-2010

• Establish active communication between ASUCSD, greater UCSD and SD communities
• Establish a diversity training workshop
• Develop a Diversity Conference for UCSD students
• Promote community service initiatives in regards to underrepresented students
• Make the Office of the AVP Diversity Affairs a space of activism, understanding, and appreciation
