About the Associated Students of UCSD (ASUCSD)
The Associated Students of the University of California, San Diego are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego student body. The ASUCSD works to promote student engagement through its services and leadership opportunities. The ASUCSD seeks to foster a cohesive community through active interaction and communication with students, the administration, and the greater San Diego Community. Our mission is to facilitate and encourage students to grow and develop through their involvement in student government, its services and auxiliaries. We promote student engagement in all areas of campus life through leadership, advocacy, and service in order to build and strengthen our community.
About the Office of the AVP Diversity Affairs
The Office of the Associate Vice President of Diversity Affairs serves to represent the underrepresented and underserved communities on and off UCSD's campus through connections with student organizations and the Associated Students. The goal is to promote and reflect upon the importance of diversity on this campus in order to elevate the issues of underrepresented communities. This office seeks to give a voice to these marginalized communities and foster salient interest in retaining, yielding, and increasing minority representation.
Goals and Projects for 2009-2010
- Establish active communication between ASUCSD, greater UCSD and SD communities
- Establish a diversity training workshop
- Develop a Diversity Conference for UCSD students
- Promote community service initiatives in regards to underrepresented students
- Make the Office of the AVP Diversity Affairs a space of activism, understanding, and appreciation
Open Staff Positions for the Office of the AVP Diversity Affairs
Assistant to the AVP of Diversity Affairs
- Shall assist the AVP of Diversity Affairs coordinate activities
- Shall help coordinate interns within the Office of Diversity Affairs
Internal Relations Intern
- Shall meet with the AS Women's Commission quarterly, unless otherwise stated
- Shall be responsible for working with the LGBTQI Association
- Shall be responsible for working with the AS Alliance Commission
- Shall be responsible for working with the orgs of the Cross Cultural Center
- Shall be responsible for working with the Student Affirmative Action Committee (SAAC) and attend all meeting
Initiated Outreach Intern
- Shall be responsible for working with Preuss ASB on parliamentary procedure and diversity training
- Shall be responsible to maintain a relationship between ASUCSD and Preuss
- Shall be responsible with working with the High School Conferences of all student organizations hosted at UCSD
- Shall be responsible for working with the Academic Success Program (ASP) and attend all meetings
- Shall be responsible for working with the Student Initiated Access Programs and Services (SIAPS) and attend all meetings
Cultural Unity Month of Awareness (C.U.M.A) Intern
- Shall be responsible for maintaining weekly meeting with C.U.M.A
- Shall be responsible for maintaining communication between the AVP Diversity Affairs and C.U.M.A Advisory Board
